At Raz Studios, every project is an opportunity to challenge limits, refine processes, and inspire creative excellence, reinforcing our vision to shape the future of independent film production in Western Australia and beyond.
Raz Studios began in the humblest of places—a home garage, one camera, and an audacious dream. Born on Hatia, a remote island in Bangladesh without electricity, founder Mahmudul Raz started life far removed from the world of technology and filmmaking he would one day revolutionise. His journey from that small island to Perth, Western Australia, was one of resilience, hard work, and relentless ambition.
Mahmudul’s first job in Australia was as a full-time cleaner, a role he took great pride in as he built a foundation for himself and his extended family. His leap into wedding photography opened his eyes to storytelling through images and sparked an even greater vision: creating a business that could empower other photographers and filmmakers to realise their creative dreams.
The business journey began with Raz Photography, Mahmudul’s original wedding photography venture, established during his second year as a student. What started as a single photography job at a friend’s sister’s wedding quickly expanded into multiple bookings, turning Raz Photography into a thriving enterprise. Leveraging the resources and momentum from the photography business, Mahmudul, alongside his partner Amy, founded Raz Media—a production company focused on corporate videos and DVD-based productions. Amy played a crucial role, managing accounts and assisting Mahmudul on set, bringing her unwavering support, energy, and love.
Driven by a passion to expand further into media production, they made the bold decision to close the lucrative wedding photography business, despite it having helped them purchase their first home. Their willingness to take risks enabled them to concentrate fully on Raz Media, fostering its growth and evolution. Eventually, the business rebranded as Raz Rentals, marking their first genuine entrepreneurial step from the home garage and firmly establishing their reputation within Western Australia’s filmmaking industry.
In 2024, recognising the need for a unified brand identity, they consolidated their ventures under one name—Raz Studios.
Raz Studios was born from this vision—initially as an online rental shop, supporting local talent with accessible, high-quality equipment. From these modest beginnings, the company rapidly evolved into one of Western Australia’s leading independent studio systems, now encompassing equipment rentals, a state-of-the-art production facility, advanced post-production services, and groundbreaking robotics technology for filmmaking.
This pioneering introduction of cinematic robotics to the region symbolises Raz Studios’ constant commitment to innovation and excellence. It is a testament to Mahmudul’s life philosophy: continuously challenging oneself, learning through doing, and empowering others along the way. At Raz Studios, we live by this ethos, encouraging our team and community to grow beyond comfort zones, embrace accountability, and turn visionary ideas into reality.
Today, Raz Studios stands as more than just a business—it’s a testament to the power of dreams, determination, and the belief that your beginnings do not dictate your destination. From a remote Bangladeshi island to shaping the future of film production in Australia, our story is about endless possibility, bold innovation, and unwavering dedication.
